January - March News Letter
Now
is the time to think about those warmer late winter days that will be here
soon. Plan for new
landscape projects as soon as possible because schedules will be filling up
fast for installation work this season.
Plan for ongoing and preventative maintenance for this
season as well. Some of the items
you should be planning for are …
Lawn mower repair, cleaning, blade sharpening
and maintenance. Don’t wait till your turf is in
need of cutting to be thinking about this.
Lawn mower repair services are very busy in the spring and have a long
waiting list for these service items.
Winter Pruning & Spring
Clean-up of plantings. This is important for the
health and overall good looks of your landscape investment. Many plants benefit from renewal and rejuvenative pruning this time of year. This is because plants bleed less sap, and
the food and hormones will not start moving till warmer weather. Don’t forget to cultivate your existing mulch
for decomposition and freshen up the areas were mulch is short. For more information on these
items please contact the office at Apple Blossom Landscape. We offer free pruning and clean-up
instruction to our clients.
Winter Pruning,
Spring Clean up and Re-mulching of landscape beds. Have the professionals at Apple Blossom
Landscape Concepts protect & encourage your planting investment. We will review all pruning options that will
renew or rejuvenate your plantings. We will also clean up and re-mulch your
landscape beds so they are prepared for another growing season. Fertilization
of plants is also available at this time. We normally complete this work in
March as weather permits. Due to time
constraints this is the only time of year that we can do clean-ups. Please
call soon to set up an appointment so you won‘t miss this window of opportunity
for your landscape.
Adjust your guide ropes on
your Trees so
as not to girdle the tree. This should
be done several times in the season till these line
are ready to be removed.
Plan for spring pest &
disease management. Those pesky little problems that popped up on
your landscape should be addressed and a plan of attack should be thought of
now. For more help on this see our
“Landscape Technologies” section and click on Horticultural Tips. If you are a client ,
contact us and we will be more than happy to help you find a solution and plan
for it.
Fertilization of plantings
and turf need
to be planned for in the up coming season. The
first step for you to take is to decide who’s going to do it. Will you do it
yourself or hire a professional to do it. There are pros and cons to both
routes. No matter what route you take , PLEASE FERTILIZE.
Your plants deplete their food source in the soil. Farmers, for thousands of years, have
fertilized their crops to feed and protect them. A properly fed landscape or crop will reap
many dividends. As always, if you are a
client, please
call us at Apple Blossom Landscape to help you with your fertilizing questions.
Water your plantings if the ground has thawed
enough that you can dig into the ground easily. Pulling the old hoses out and watering your
parched plants will benefit them. The
winter winds have a terrible drying effect on your plantings and combined with
the frozen soils the plants can only absorb minimal moisture.
Plan for new landscape
projects and annual plantings. Now is the
time to plan annual plantings and flowers as well as vegetable gardens. Plans need to be made for location of items,
and then those areas need to be prepared.
Home shows can be a good place to start when looking for Hardscape ideas like retaining walls, patios walkways etc.
Spring Landscape
Planting & Hardscape Work. Maybe you have been thinking about adding
some additional items to your landscape garden investment. Allow Apple Blossom
Landscape Concepts to finish the next phase of your landscape project. Please
call soon to set up an appointment so you won‘t miss out on the Spring planting season.
This
is only a small sampling of some of the items you need to be doing in order to
be prepared for the new growing season. I hope you find it helpful and look
forward to seeing you this year.
